Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 27th of June.
Good morning, Joliet.
🏛️ Government
State lawmakers in Will County met on June 25 at Harrah’s Casino in Joliet to discuss the record state budget and possible spending changes later this year — they noted that lower federal funds might force tax adjustments.
The lawmakers said they may meet again before the veto session in October to review spending — more talks will address revenue and service funding challenges.
Governor JB Pritzker announced his re-election campaign for a third term on Thursday, June 26th at 8:00 a.m. CDT and pledged to build on the progress his administration made since 2019.
He began a two-day tour with stops in Rockford, Peoria, Springfield, Belleville — and West Frankfort to reach voters statewide.
🏈 Sports
Conor Essenburg of Lincoln-Way West was named Herald-News Baseball Player of the Year for a second time after he improved his pitching and batting stats—lowering his ERA to 0.94 and raising his batting average to .464.
