- ➤ The SNAP-Ed program, which provided free nutrition education for families in Will and Kankakee counties, will end later this year due to lost federal funding. The University of Illinois Extension said local outreach workers will continue lessons — a change that may affect over 1 million residents annually. Herald-News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ A single-family home built in 1910 at 361 Wilcox Street sold for $460,000 on Dec. 4. The 2,638 sqft house (with parking access) sits on a 6,400 sqft lot amid other local sales in Joliet. Herald-News

- ➤ Joliet West took a late lead to edge Plainfield East 60-58 Friday night in Joliet (photos captured the final moments), marking a thrilling finish. Herald-News
- ➤ Madelyn Kiper scored 29 points as Minooka defeated Morris 50 to 28 on Saturday in a game that moved the team’s record to 11 to 1 — a clear sign of their strong teamwork. Herald-News
- ➤ The Rockets opened the E.C. Nichols Holiday Tournament with a 53-32 win over Marian Central on Saturday. Jace Nelson led with 14 points (including two dunks) and Richmond-Burton will meet Stillman Valley Monday at 2:00 p.m. in Marengo. Herald-News
- ➤ On Saturday, Joliet Catholic edged Christ the King 56-52 in boys basketball with strong contributions from Jayden Armstrong and Danny Cervantes, while local high school teams in wrestling, bowling and girls basketball posted competitive results across the area. Herald-News
- ➤ Woodland's boys basketball team held an early lead at the Warrior Dome Friday and won 58-43 over Marquette in Tri-County Conference play. Coach Connor Kaminke credited the team's constant focus and balanced offense for the win. Herald-News
