REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Antoinette Walker, a Lockport resident, said her rent will rise to $1,450 on Jan. 1 because of increased property taxes, part of a wider housing affordability challenge in Will County. Data show low multifamily vacancies and rising prices, highlighting the need for more affordable and diverse housing options.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bolingbrook beat Oswego East 55-49 in girls basketball Thursday while Sandburg, Joliet Central, Lockport, Minooka, Plainfield South, Lemont, Peotone and Reed-Custer secured wins in local contests. Boys wrestling and girls bowling also saw results (Joliet Central won in wrestling and Lockport triumphed in bowling).  Herald-News
  • Joliet West edged Romeoville 42-33 on Thursday evening in a close game that saw both teams battle turnovers and shifting momentum. The Tigers secured their second win while Romeoville continues to seek its first victory this season.  Herald-News
  • Thursday at Hall High School in Joliet, Princeton lost 67 to 57 to Eureka & St. Bede edged Bureau Valley 59 to 57 in the Colmone Classic. Princeton will play for seventh place Saturday at 3 p.m., while St. Bede contests for ninth place.  Herald-News
  • Suburban Life announced its 2025 All-Area football team highlighting top players like Montini quarterback Israel Abrams and Nazareth receiver Jake Cestone, who earned state and conference honors. The roster spotlights local athletes’ record season performances.  Herald-News
  • On Thursday night, Newman girls basketball won 38-22 over Erie-Prophetstown in a tough defensive contest. Gisselle Martin (16 points) led her team as they held a 17-12 halftime lead and secured the victory with steady play.  Herald-News
  • The Joliet Slammers will hold one baseball game called The Big House Ballgame on April 30 at the old Joliet Prison (which closed in 2002) to mark 100 years since Route 66 received its designation. Tickets are available at joliet.gov.  ABC7 Chicago
  • Dwight’s girls’ basketball team (8-3) defeated Marquette 61-31 at Bader Gym using aggressive defense and a strong offense, and Coach Sulzberger praised their athletic play.  Herald-News
