  • State Sen. Rachel Ventura invites locals to join the second annual Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery — volunteers will lay remembrance wreaths on the graves of over 150 veterans.  Herald-News

  • Babe’s Home Cookin’ in Joliet was listed for sale as owner Tim Reilly decided to retire after a health scare and personal losses. He said serious prospects exist and invites locals to visit the restaurant before the sale finalizes.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chris Isaak will perform at Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, while the Joliet American Legion Band hosts a free holiday concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 (with a food donation).  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Daily Journal selected high school runners to its 2025 Boys Cross Country All-Area Team, highlighting strong performances from Bishop McNamara, Bradley-Bourbonnais, Herscher and others as athletes posted personal bests in sectionals and invitationals.  Herald-News
  • At a recent dual meet in Joliet, Morris boys beat Ottawa 48-24 while Ottawa girls won 46-24. Coaches noted the strong performance and said the young wrestlers are gaining valuable experience for the season.  Herald-News
  • Herald-News preview capsules spotlight girls bowling teams for the upcoming 2025-26 season, with coaches from Bolingbrook, Joliet Central, Joliet West and several schools setting ambitious goals for improved performance and state qualification.   • CCL/ESCC announced new divisional alignments for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, changing placements for many of its 24 teams including Joliet Catholic. The league used an algorithm based on past wins and enrollment data to place teams into divisions like Blue (Brother Rice, Loyola, Marist, Mount Carmel) and others.  Herald-News
  • Nazareth girls basketball team won 68-32 over Joliet Catholic on Wednesday and improved to an 8-0 record, as coach Ed Stritzel credited the players' teamwork — which built a strong early lead.  Herald-News
