- ➤ Peace Lutheran Church in New Lenox will host its 29th annual free Thanksgiving Day dinner at noon on Nov. 27 at 1900 E. Lincoln Highway to offer a full holiday meal and a visit from Santa for anyone alone, in need, or new to the area. Attendees must call 815-483-5327 by Nov. 12 — seats are limited. Herald-News
- ➤ American Legion Hall Post 1080 in Joliet will host a Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday with a 9:50 a.m. band performance—followed by an 11 a.m. ceremony that includes a rifle salute and a speech from an Allen Force representative. The public is invited to a free lunch after the ceremony and a free dinner later at Cantigny Post 367 VFW from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Herald-News

- ➤ The Joliet American Legion Band will perform at Rialto Square Theatre on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.—free tickets in exchange for food donations will be available on Dec. 8 and Dec. 9. The Jingle Mingle event for young adults will take place on Dec. 4 from 6-9 p.m.—it will feature appetizers, a cash bar and live music as part of the Home for the Holidays series. Herald-News

- ➤ On Saturday night, the Lockport Porters held off Homewood-Flossmoor 21-20 in a rainy Class 8A playoff game when Matt Kies batted down a two-point conversion in the final seconds, marking the school's fifth time advancing to the quarterfinals.
