COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Joliet Central High School hosted an assembly on Nov. 7 to honor community veterans—attendees showed respect for local military service—marking the event as a meaningful tribute. Herald-News
- ➤ Illinois lost 2,936 men in Vietnam, with 20 local men from Joliet giving their lives during the conflict—each sacrifice remembered by families and communities. Their service and loss continue to shape local memories of the war. Herald-News
- ➤ Nicor Gas and Operation Warm gave new winter coats on Friday to 247 students at T.E. Culbertson Elementary in Joliet while students at Drexel Elementary in Cicero will receive theirs soon. The program is part of a long-running community outreach to Title I schools and comes ahead of a forecast for snow on Sunday and Monday. Herald-News
- ➤ Rabbi Jenny Steinberg-Martinez was named the new executive director of Stepping Stones on Oct. 15, succeeding Paul Lauridsen. She brings extensive experience in substance abuse treatment—having led programs at Joliet Jewish Congregation—and will guide the nonprofit as it expands services for local residents. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Veteran William Sutton, a Purple Heart recipient, joined the Will County Veterans Assistance Commission as a service officer to help local veterans. He began work at the Joliet office and said the commission will expand its mental health program next year when it moves to a new building on Copperfield Ave. Herald-News
- ➤ Essington Road in Joliet will be closed from 9 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Friday next week for CN rail crossing work as the company replaces the grade crossing with a schedule that may change with weather and productivity. A posted detour will direct traffic to Renwick Road, Gaylord Road & Division Street. Herald-News

- ➤ Bryce Tencza, a Providence senior and third degree black belt in taekwondo, led his team with strong blocking in a playoff win and was named CCL/ESCC Orange Lineman of the Year. He has committed to play Division I FCS football for Lafayette and his team will play today at Kankakee. Herald-News
