- ➤ Country star Chris Young will perform his holiday show 'It Must Be Christmas — An Acoustic Evening with Chris Young' at Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet on Nov. 21. Ticket prices begin at $49 and the show is part of the Home for the Holidays series. Herald-News

- ➤ Providence Catholic High School senior Michael Jensen earned a perfect ACT composite score of 36—an achievement reached by less than one-quarter of 1% of test takers nationwide. He maintained First Honors every semester and earned distinctions in the ICTM State Math Contest and as an AP Scholar with Distinction. Herald-News

- ➤ St. Anne beat Metro-East Lutheran by a score of 39 to 20 in the first round of the I8FA playoffs on Saturday night at Russell Cotton Athletic Complex. Grant Pomaranski threw four touchdown passes and ran for two scores as the Cardinals built their lead in the second half—coach Alan Rood later said it was the best game in the program, and the team will face No. 3 Polo in the quarterfinals next weekend. - ➤ On Nov. 1, Providence routed Springfield High 63-19 as Broden Mackert rushed for 145 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first quarter (his performance gave the team an early lead). The Celtics will face Kankakee next Saturday (the win was supported by strong plays from offense, defense and special teams). Herald-News
- ➤ Clifton Central beat Knoxville 24—6 in the Class 1A playoff game on Nov. 1. Blake Chandler scored a touchdown as fans cheered at the stadium. Herald-News
- ➤ Newman beat Ridgeview/Lexington 43-8 in a Class 2A playoff game with three key interceptions by Rosengren, Ernst — and Mason, who made the decisive plays — to secure the win. The seventh-seeded Comets, with an 8-2 record, will play next Saturday against either El Paso-Gridley or Chicago Marshall. Herald-News

- ➤ On Saturday, Glenwood controlled the Class 6A playoff game and beat Joliet Catholic 17—12, marking the Hilltoppers' first opening round loss since 2006. The undefeated Titans will host East St. Louis in the second round next weekend. Herald-News
- ➤ Zach Washington returned an 81-yard kickoff for a touchdown that helped St. Francis come from behind to beat Morgan Park 35-28 in the Class 5A playoffs at Gately Stadium on Saturday. He also caught a touchdown earlier, and the team will host Prairie Ridge next weekend—adding to a key playoff push. Herald-News
- ➤ Lockport won a 21-14 Class 8A playoff game over Sandburg on Saturday night in Orland Park when junior receiver Khairi Sias caught a 49-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to give the Porters a two-touchdown lead. The victory, which marked their sixth win in a row, will set up a second-round matchup with Homewood-Flossmoor next Saturday at 6 p.m. — coach George Czart celebrated his 63rd birthday with the team after the win.
