BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aqua America's water branch Aqua Illinois is being sold in a merger between American Water Works and Essential Utilities that is set to close by the end of the first quarter, and operations will continue normally until the deal is final. Customers will see no changes in service or rates while the Aqua Illinois name remains in use — the 40 workers at the Kankakee office will keep working.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Engelbert Humperdinck will perform his holiday show A Winter World of Love: A Night of Holiday Classics & Greatest Hits at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet on Dec. 5. The internationally known singer, who has sold over 140 million records and earned numerous gold and platinum albums, will star in the theatre's Home for the Holidays series.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Illinois State Board of Education released the 2025 school report card for Will County schools using new designations (exemplary for the top 10% and comprehensive for the bottom 5%). Most schools received a commendable ranking unless a student group performed in the bottom 5%, and readers can review the table to compare this year's results with last year's.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crest Hill City Council approved city staff to install a computer-controlled system to adjust pumping from cleaner wells—this move will lower PFAS levels until the Lake Michigan water project is complete. The initiative is estimated to cost about $200,000 and be installed in six to nine months while officials consider additional filtration measures.  Herald-News

  • Joliet West girls volleyball team won its fourth consecutive regional championship with a 25-18, 25-21 win over Yorkville at Oswego East last Thursday, marking 18 straight wins and a spot in the sectional semifinals.
