COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Hartman Recreation Center (511 Collins St.) to learn about recent activities and explore future uses for undeveloped state land near Old Joliet Prison; Mayor Terry D’Arcy and state Sen. Rachel Ventura will provide details and answer community questions during the meeting.  Herald-News
  • This weekend, Will County offers fall fun with haunted hayrides at Eaton Preserve on Oct. 17—18, a trick or treat hike in Hickory Creek Woods on Oct. 17, and a Halloween craft show at Louis Joliet Mall. Additional events in Lockport include Pumpkin Fest with corn mazes and an art sale that runs through early November.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Registration for Joliet’s winter shoveling service for seniors and disabled residents filled up in 30 hours after opening on Oct. 1—350 people applied for 330 funded spots. City officials are considering changes to expand the program while accepting contractor bids until Oct. 28.  Herald-News

  • Bays Investment Corp is hosting a ribbon cutting today at 4 p.m. for Bays Tower — a 140-apartment building at 331 N. Ottawa St. in Joliet that marks its grand opening.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Providence's boys soccer team lost to Timothy Christian 2-0 Wednesday evening as the Trojans scored early and held the lead throughout the game. Coach Mike Taylor said the team must play better to win its final game against Coal City and keep their playoff hopes alive—any less, they risk an early exit.  Herald-News
  • On Oct. 15, the St. Bede boys soccer team played its first home game at St. Bede Academy and lost 7-0 to Abingdon-Avon—marking a historic milestone for the school.  Herald-News
