COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Joliet West High School held its homecoming parade along Glenwood Ave. on Oct. 10—senior Homecoming Queen Khloe Corez and Homecoming King Kameron Moreno waved to local residents.  Herald-News
  • The city of Joliet will host two workshops where residents bring photos and memorabilia to guide the final design of the Unity Dome sculpture for the new City Square. Artist Sijia Chen will lead a hands-on paper cutting session at Thigpen Elementary School on Oct. 17 from 5-7 p.m.—with another at Hartman Recreation Center on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bret Michaels will perform with his solo band at Hollywood Casino Joliet on Oct. 18 as the venue’s first act, bringing hits from Poison and his solo career to local fans. The singer said he is excited to celebrate the casino’s opening—promising a lively show for the Joliet community.  Herald-News
  • Yachtley Crew’s Seas the Night World Tour will perform at the Rialto Square Theatre on October 30 in downtown Joliet. The seven-member band from southern California is known for sparking a Yacht Rock craze, and tickets (start at $29) can be purchased at the box office.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Metra now requires riders to carry their e-bikes and e-scooters on board without using electric motors—Metra said the change aims to lessen safety risks and train delays caused by heavy devices. The update also prohibits using onboard power outlets to charge these devices, and it was announced Friday.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday night at Memorial Stadium, Mt Carmel kept their perfect season at 7-0 with a 35-7 win over Joliet Catholic in a game honoring former student-athlete Kevin Hansen — a rivalry fixture between the two teams. Quarterback Emmett Dowling led Mt Carmel with four passing touchdowns as Joliet Catholic fell to 2-5.  Herald-News
  • Fenwick beat Benet 48—7 at Triton College last Friday as the Thies brothers scored four rushing touchdowns while quarterback Jamen Williams threw for 210 yards and kicker Noah Sur made two field goals to earn an automatic playoff berth.  Herald-News
  • Joliet West hosted Plainfield East in a varsity football game on Oct. 10 during its homecoming festivities—where Plainfield East's Brady Cloherty played a key role in the match. The game brought competitive spirit and school pride to the campus.  Herald-News
  • Jacobs won its Fox Valley Conference football game against Dundee-Crown 53-18 on Friday with 46 carries for 412 yards (including 154 yards and two touchdowns by senior Caden DuMelle), keeping the team playoff eligible with two games left.  Herald-News
