EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Joliet West High School is hosting homecoming week with a pep rally held during third period for juniors and seniors and another during eighth period for freshmen and sophomores. The homecoming parade will begin at 4:15 p.m. from the school's parking lot at 401 N. Larkin Ave. and follows a route east on Glenwood Avenue to Woodlawn — then turns left onto Douglas Street, left onto Westminster, and left back to the parking lot. Herald-News

- ➤ State Sen. Michael Hastings said $123 million is secured for fixing roads+ bridges in the south suburbs as part of the $50.6 billion Rebuild Illinois program that will run over six years. Herald-News
- ➤ More vehicles and equipment arrived at the National Guard base on Arsenal Road in Elwood on Thursday—after a federal judge granted a temporary restraining order against deploying troops to Chicago. Elwood Police increased patrols—aiming to maintain public safety amid the rising activity at the base. Herald-News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ St. Patrick beat Joliet Catholic 4-1 on Wednesday at Joliet Catholic’s campus in a boys' soccer game, with the Shamrocks scoring four goals in the first half while the Hilltoppers managed a lone response in the second. - ➤ Morris’ Jack Wheeler was named the IBCA Class 3A Baseball Player of the Year after he hit .377 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs during a season in which Morris won 27 games and lost 9—he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round.
