  • A funeral was held on Oct. 3 in Joliet for Pfc. Vincent Vega, a Korean War soldier missing in action since a battle at Osan in 1950—his remains were identified earlier this year. His burial was held later at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood.  Herald-News

  • Tickets are now available for The Visionary Series: Inspiring the Future of Business event hosted by the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry on November 19 at Hollywood Casino in Joliet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. + Chicago sportscaster Dave Kaplan and Kevin Cross from NBC Universal Chicago will discuss streaming, platform proliferation and how these trends affect local economic growth.  Herald-News
  • SERVPRO-Joliet will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Oct. 7 with a ribbon cutting at its main office at 3408 Mound Road in Joliet—light refreshments will be served for visitors.  Herald-News
  • Star Union Spirits’ 75-25 Reserve Light Whiskey won the Best in Class award at the Heartland Whiskey Competition. The 107-proof whiskey was made with Illinois corn and rye and was aged for 30 months in oak barrels finished with toasted oak flavor.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Acclaimed jazz pianist Jeremy Kahn leads his quartet including vocalist Petra Van Nuis who will perform at Baker Community Center on Oct. 11 to open the Fall season of Saturday Night Concerts produced by Norris Cultural Arts Center—further shows include a Big Band performance on Nov. 15 and a Holiday Revelry concert on Dec. 21.  Herald-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • More than 2,000 people have joined the Forest Preserve District of Will County's Be a Trailblazer program this year, finishing over 60,000 nature missions. The fall session runs until Nov. 8—new missions will launch on Oct. 17 and prizes include a Fitbit, Solo stove, and gift cards from local partners.  Herald-News

  • Varsity boys from Lincoln-Way East ran in the three-mile Locktoberfest cross country race at Dellwood Park in Lockport—Brendan Hanrahan won on October 4th.  Herald-News
  • New School Leaders, a local nonprofit, will hold Leaders of the Court: Season 2 on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Old Y YMCA at 1350 S. Briggs Street, with one-on-one basketball games for kids in grades 4 through 10—vendors, music, and fun activities will be part of the event. Players can sign up for $5 and have an option to buy NSL jerseys for $25.  Herald-News
  • Bishop McNamara beat Marian Central 49-13 on Oct. 4th, 2025—Karter Krutsinger scored on the third play and Julius May rushed for 169 yards, giving the Fightin’ Irish their first 6-0 record in 27 years. The team will face Wheaton Academy and Hope Academy on the road later this week.  Herald-News
  • In Week 6 high school football, Oswego beat Joliet West 48 to 6 at Ken Pickerill Stadium as Mariano Velasco made key plays, Woodstock won 20 to 14 over Plano, Yorkville won 35 to 19 against Plainfield South, Oswego East won 51 to 6 over Romeoville, and Richmond-Burton beat Sandwich 42 to 12 with Nick Michalek rushing 255 yards—marking a busy night in Kendall County sports.  Herald-News
