BUSINESS NEWS

  • Plans are underway for a 795-acre data center on farmland south of Chicagoland Speedway that will include 12 three-story buildings and a ComEd substation paid by the developer HW Technology Park Development LLC. A proposed annexation agreement goes to the Joliet Plan Commission on Oct. 16 and the first building is expected to be built in 2027—creating 15 to 20 jobs per building.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joliet Central students (including those in the AVAC program) were dismissed early Friday at 1:15 p.m. after a water main break lowered water pressure at the school, and the district provided buses for riders and grab and go lunches while the Transition Center and Pathways Campuses were unaffected.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A newly rebuilt exit ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to Larkin Avenue opens today by 10 a.m. weather permitting—lane closures that began Friday at 9 p.m. are in effect to install a new traffic signal and support the ongoing highway reconstruction.  Herald-News
  • Joliet's Cass Street bridge was shut down last week for repairs to replace a worn steel deck that had limited traffic for nine years. The 23 million dollar project will keep the bridge closed until late 2026—officials say workers will also upgrade electrical systems, mechanical parts, and sidewalks to restore full use.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lincoln-Way Central won its 28-20 homecoming game against Bradley-Bourbonnais on Friday night, handing Bradley-Bourbonnais its first loss of the season + the Knights built an early lead and sealed the victory with strong defense. Quarterback Drew Woodburn threw two touchdown passes + the defense made key interceptions to hold Bradley-Bourbonnais to a season-low score.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way Central beat Bradley-Bourbonnais 28-20 in Week 6 football on October 3rd — the win came after a strong effort by the team.  Herald-News
  • IC Catholic Prep won a 35-28 thriller over St. Francis on Friday as sophomore Grant Bowen caught two key touchdown passes, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter. The victory marks the Knights’ first rivalry win since 2022 and boosts their playoff push as Bowen finished with four catches for 78 yards — a promising performance for the team.  Herald-News
  • Hall of Famer Frank Thomas will visit Goodfellas Cigar Lounge in Joliet on Oct. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.—tickets cost $39.99 for vodka options or $49.99 for pecan whiskey and include a bottle of his FT35 spirit and a $20 voucher, with the player expected to sign merchandise.  Herald-News
  • Will County girls flag football playoffs will begin Monday, October 6 with Romeoville and Kankakee regional matchups scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—teams including Joliet West, Joliet Central, the four Plainfields, Romeoville, Minooka and Bolingbrook will advance through sectional rounds to state finals on October 17 and 18.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Catholic hosted a varsity football game against Niles Notre Dame at Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium on Oct. 3. Photos show Anthony Finnegan making a key play—actions that energized his team during the close contest.  Herald-News
  • On October 3, Jonas Williams of Lincoln-Way East broke the state passing touchdown record in a varsity game against Metea Valley—his achievement sets a new milestone for his team.  Herald-News
  • At Frankfort, Lincoln-Way East beat Metea Valley 42—6 and Jonas Williams set the all-time IHSA career touchdown pass record, keeping the team unbeaten at 6—0. Other games saw Lockport win in overtime and Oswego beat Joliet West—clear signs strong high school football action is building ahead of next week.  Herald-News
