- ➤ Today, a funeral service is held in Joliet for U.S. Army Pfc. Vincent A. Vega, a Korean War soldier whose remains were positively identified. - ➤ Romeoville High School will host the eighth annual Spartan Classic band competition Saturday at Romeoville stadium—nine bands will perform with the Romeoville band playing at 3:30 p.m. and awards given later; entrance fees support the school band. Herald-News

- ➤ Illinois has been extremely hot and dry since August—nearly the entire state shows abnormal dryness and rising fire risks, and Joliet officials warn residents to follow burn bans and safety rules when burning outdoors. Herald-News
