EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Catholic Education Foundation is holding its Annual Appeal titled Faith into Action - Educate, Inspire, Serve to raise $1 million and support local Catholic schools. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Department of Transportation shut down an I-80 ramp at Center St. in Joliet for emergency repairs on Monday—causing the eastbound ramp to North Center Street to close for a week and intermittent closures on the westbound ramp, while northbound Center St. between I-80 and Meadow Avenue remains closed until repairs finish. The ramps are expected to reopen by the evening rush hour on Oct. 6.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jorge Mireles scored both goals for Plainfield Central in a 2-0 win over Joliet West and was named Herald-News Athlete of the Week after receiving 111 of 255 votes (beating out other nominees).  Herald-News
  • Joliet Township hosted Joliet Catholic for a varsity tennis match at Joliet West on Sept. 29—Kim Alvarez played in the singles match.  Herald-News
  • In Friday night’s game against Joliet Central, Plainfield Central lifted its win streak as sophomore quarterback Tommy Morrisette led the Wildcats and coach Robby Carriger encouraged the team to build on their progress. Lincoln-Way East also impressed with junior linebacker Casey Mikrut scoring on an interception & quarterback Jonas Williams tying an IHSA record as he moved closer to a career passing milestone.  Herald-News
  • Junior Brezdyn Simons solidified his position as FCW’s QB1 in a strong Week 5 performance—he played both offense and defense to help his Falcons win 46-22 at the Wood Shed. Meanwhile, the Chicagoland Prairie playoff picture is shifting as Seneca, Marquette, Dwight and St. Bede plan key matchups to secure postseason spots in upcoming weeks.  Herald-News
