  • Joliet Central celebrated homecoming with a parade — featuring its marching band — in Downtown Joliet on Sept. 27.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Haunted house season is in full swing across northern Illinois as a guide highlights spots like Aurora’s Basement of the Dead and Old Joliet Prison Haunted House—where visitors get interactive scares and varied spooky setups. Ticket prices start at $15 and many attractions run on weekends and select weekdays through early November.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horticulture educator Nancy Kuhajda will host Grow Your Own Garlic classes from 6 to 7 p.m. on Oct 9 in Joliet, Oct 15 in Bourbonnais, and Oct 16 in Morris—each class offers a $15 kit with five garlic cloves, growing tips, and recipes while registration is due on the day of the event.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Joliet hired outside lawyers in spring to investigate operational deviations at Bicentennial Park and placed park manager Lori Carmine on administrative leave; they are also reviewing park programming with the opening of City Square downtown — officials stress that the park remains city-owned and is not for sale.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school Week 5 football games saw several local teams secure wins with standout plays, as St. Francis beat Providence 47-35 with senior quarterback Brock Phillip throwing four touchdown passes and Montini reached its 15th straight victory—other teams like Nazareth, Hinsdale Central and Wheaton Warrenville South also posted strong performances across the matchups.  Herald-News
