- ➤ Troy Township and the Shorewood Police Department are hosting a free drive-thru shredding and medication disposal event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Troy Township Community Center on W. Seil Road—each vehicle is limited to four grocery bags and proof of residency is required. Herald-News
- ➤ On Sept. 24, about 100 neighbors met with Joliet Catholic Academy officials, who shared plans to build a campus football stadium and new sports fields—raising concerns about heavier traffic on Friday game nights. Officials said construction will start in spring if city approval comes by December and fundraising goals are met. Herald-News

- ➤ Gov. JB Pritzker joined leaders and community members at Joliet Junior College on Tuesday to open the new Center for Student Wellness and Support that offers counseling, group therapy, and a pantry for students — key services to help them succeed. The center was funded with $250,000 from the state to support student well-being. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Catholic Academy celebrated 155 years of Catholic education and now serves over 560 students with strong academics, athletics, and faith programs—its students achieved a 67% AP exam pass rate and earned over $21.8 million in scholarships while accepting applications for new students—prospective families can contact the Admissions Office for more details. - ➤ The Ruby Street bridge in downtown Joliet reopened Wednesday after two months of upgrades that included a new aerial cable, control system, electrical, and mechanical repairs over the Des Plaines River—Cass Street bridge will close Friday for a $22.8 million rehabilitation project expected to last through late 2026.
