CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Rich Strylowski, co-owner of Mistie Hill Vineyard—located in Custer Park—will host a grape stomp event at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 where visitors will stomp grapes for disposal and receive customized T-shirts as souvenirs. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Joliet residents provided input on future city development at a workshop on Sept. 17 at Joliet West High School—over 100 people attended and 2000 submitted responses online to shape a comprehensive plan for housing, parks, and jobs. City leaders will use the feedback for long-term improvements in the community. Herald-News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Matthew Blackert, known as the Harmon Bullet, ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns as Newman beat Orion 40-14 on Friday night—he also returned several kicks to boost his team’s field position. Newman now stands 4-0 and will face Rockridge next week with confidence in its strong offense and defense. Herald-News
- ➤ High school football games unfolded in Will and Grundy counties this week—Lincoln-Way East beat Lockport 49—14, Yorkville won 28—0 at Plainfield East, Plainfield North defeated Romeoville 49—0, and Coal City, Seneca and Lincoln-Way West also earned wins. Several teams will face new opponents next week in contests set for Naperville, Oswego and Minooka. Herald-News
- ➤ Bishop McNamara dominated Chicago Christian in a 75—0 homecoming win at Rich Zinanni Athletic Complex, scoring three touchdowns on the first five plays and holding the Knights to negative yardage. The Fightin’ Irish improved to 4—0 in the Chicagoland Christian Conference and will face Aurora Christian next Friday at 7 p.m. Herald-News
- ➤ On Friday at Marist, Lucas Simulick picked up a low snap on an 18 yard field goal attempt and threw a one yard touchdown pass to Declan Wagner as time expired—delivering Joliet Catholic its first win of the season with a final score of 23 to 17. Herald-News
- ➤ On Friday night, Cary-Grove defeated Huntley with a 34 to 27 win as senior Logan Abrams rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns and made a game-saving tackle on Huntley’s quarterback Malik Carter—handing the Red Raiders their first loss after a 3 to 0 start. Herald-News
