CULTURE NEWS

  • Stayin’ Alive – A Tribute to the Bee Gees will perform a full Bee Gees concert at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 and will sing hits such as Night Fever and Stayin’ Alive.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minooka Community High School senior Addison Davis was named Student of the Month for September by the Channahon-Minooka Rotary — the award recognized her excellent 3.8 GPA, honor roll status, and leadership on the marching band. She plans to attend JJC before transferring to a four-year university.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois is set to issue its own vaccine guidelines as Gov. JB Pritzker ordered the Illinois Department of Public Health — in consultation with state experts — to set up standing orders that let health care providers give COVID-19, flu, RSV, and other routine vaccines. The new rules will help families get protection when federal directions change.  Herald-News
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the reconstructed ramp from southbound Larkin Avenue to eastbound I-80 in Joliet will reopen today—weather permitting. Lane closures began Thursday at 8:00 p.m. on eastbound I-80 between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue and will end by 5:00 a.m. today with at least one lane remaining open.  Herald-News
  • Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow filed a lawsuit against council member Juan Moreno on Sept 16 — alleging he did not live in Joliet for one year as required before his April 1 election — which challenges his candidacy.  Herald-News
  • Joliet is seeking a donor for its first Christmas tree to be placed in the new city square for the Light Up the Holidays Festival and Parade set for Nov. 28. The tree must be a Norway spruce or fir at least 30 feet tall, will be removed at no cost to the owner who will be honored, and nominations are accepted by email through Oct. 24 — officials say.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joliet Catholic volleyball rallied in New Lenox to upset the previously unbeaten Providence in three sets, improving their record to 3-9 while Providence fell to 10-1; other local teams registered wins, losses and draws in volleyball, soccer, golf and swimming — a mix of results that shows the local sports scene's competitive spirit.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Central hosted Plainfield South for a girls varsity volleyball game on Sept. 18 — Plainfield South’s Leah Oehmke made key plays during the match.  Herald-News
  • Coal City won its road match at Peotone on Sept. 18 in straight sets with scores of 25—17 and 25—21 to improve its ICE record to 3—2. Sophomore Maggie Carlson led with seven kills and the team now prepares for upcoming matches.  Herald-News
