CULTURE NEWS

  • The Joliet Area Historical Museum will host a 45th anniversary screening of The Blues Brothers at Old Joliet Prison on Oct. 4, with the film starting at 7 p.m.—guests will also be able to tour the historic site and enjoy local treats and memorabilia.  Herald-News
  • The Throwbacks will perform live on the rooftop of the Joliet Area Historical Museum on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.—the band will bring classic oldies and modern energy to the stage. Reserved tables are available for museum members—walk-ups are also welcome while tickets last.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joliet city officials said the new City Square on Chicago Street will be ready for the holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting by the end of this year even though landscaping and audio equipment will be added in the spring. Construction continues on the project despite a delay on the $197,000 Dome of Unity sculpture decision—Route 66 anniversary festivities in April will also be part of the plan.  Herald-News

  • Joliet Central’s volleyball team finished second at the eight-team Peg Bryan Invitational held Saturday at their home court—losing the championship match to Oak Lawn—while Plainfield Central ended third after beating Oak Forest.  Herald-News
