  • Shorewood resident Kim Whisenhunt founded Blue Heron Bagels in October with her own funds to create a home kitchen business that bakes gourmet sourdough bagels with nearly 40 monthly flavors—she makes 90 to 120 bagels weekly and donates part of her profits to local nonprofits. She sells her bagels online and at local markets with help from family and plans to expand her offerings to include flavored cream cheese.  Herald-News

CRIME NEWS

  • Daniel Benitez-Aparcedo, 26, was charged with multiple felonies after he allegedly sold fake grenades during an undercover operation on July 25 — his detention hearing is set for September 10 at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet.  Herald-News
  • A former patient from Crest Hill, Jacob Baker, 25, was charged with threatening to burn down the Madden Mental Health Center with a technician inside after leaving a voicemail using a racial slur on May 21 that stemmed from his claim of mistreatment—he was released pretrial under the SAFE-T Act with conditions to avoid the facility and the technician.  Herald-News

  • Singer Chris Isaak will perform at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet on Friday, Dec 12—ticket prices start at $49.50. His 40-year career has filled large venues and will attract many fans.  Herald-News

  • Joliet Junior College Foundation will honor outstanding alumni and community members at its Night of Stars celebration Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the JJC Main Campus Theatre—honorees include Larry Wiers, Mark Jerry Schneidewind, John Williams ’79 and the Zonta Club of Joliet Area—acknowledging their decades of service and community impact.  Herald-News

  • Lincoln-Way Central beat Providence 26—14 on Friday night. The Knights rushed for 360 yards on 40 carries and Justin Cobbs ran for 215 yards after Luke Tingley was injured, with coach Dave Woodburn saying Tingley remains a key leader.  Herald-News
