CRIME NEWS

  • On September 3rd, students found two 9 millimeter bullets in a classroom at Joliet Central High School and stayed in place while police secured the area—officials later canceled the hold order when no threat was found.  FOX 32
  • A shooting in south suburban Crete Township on Tuesday night left a male passenger dead and a female driver in critical condition when deputies arrived at 2300 East Exchange Street—investigators recovered about 40 shell casings from the scene.  FOX 32

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy Award-winning singer Patti LaBelle will perform at Hollywood Casino Joliet on Friday, Nov. 14 as part of her 80/65 Tour celebrating her 80 years of life and 65 years in music—she will sing hits like Lady Marmalade and On My Own in an intimate show.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minooka Community High School’s reading scores dipped during the past school year with freshman, sophomore, and junior growth scores falling from fall to spring, though the overall ACT composite stayed above the state average — officials noted concerns over smartphone use and plan to boost instruction with ACT mastery courses and integrated reading. At a board meeting on August 20, members reviewed the new 2025—26 budget and discussed transportation plans as the district begins sharing resources with Minooka Community Consolidated School District 201.  Herald-News

  • The Associated Press released the Illinois IHSA football polls yesterday to rank teams in all eight classes, which include local contenders from Joliet.  Herald-News
  • Yesterday, the Herald News sports roundup reported wins in flag football by teams from Bolingbrook, Yorkville, Joliet West and Romeoville—along with a tie in the girls golf team event between Lockport and Lincoln-Way East at the LWC invite. Close matches in volleyball, boys soccer and boys golf further showcased local athletes' competitive spirit.  Herald-News
