ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 13-year-old child was seriously injured when a motorized minibike crashed into an SUV at Elgin Avenue and Cayuga Street in unincorporated Joliet Township on Sunday at about 4:20 p.m.—emergency crews took the child with multiple broken bones to a local hospital while the SUV driver was unharmed.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville will open a free exhibit called 'Souvenirs From the Silurian Sea: Fossils of Will County' tomorrow that shows fossils of ancient sea creatures from the area. The exhibit runs until November 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and offers hands-on fossil digging stations—where paleontologist Willy will guide visitors in uncovering fossils.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joliet Public Schools District 86 welcomed over 50 new educators for the 2025-26 school year who attended weeklong orientation sessions in August to learn about curriculum, equity, technology, and student services. The training provided key information on safety, security, and classroom practices.  Herald-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Forest Preserve District of Will County announced a week of hands-on nature events starting Sept. 8, including a Nature Play Day After Hours at Plum Creek Nature Center on Sept. 9, a Fall Drum Circle at Four Rivers on Sept. 11, a Kayak Kollege workshop at Lake Chaminwood on Sept. 12, and a Recycle Your Bicycle event from Sept. 13 to Sept. 28 with drop-offs at Hidden Oaks, McKinley Woods-Kerry Sheridan Grove, Monee Reservoir — Sugar Creek Preserve in Joliet.  Herald-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saint Joseph Medical Center received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus award for high-quality stroke care — an honor that shows its commitment to following safe, evidence-based treatment — and the hospital now uses advanced surgery tools to help stroke patients.  Herald-News

  • Hosts Steve Soucie and Matt Rodewald — both local sports experts — review Illinois high school football Week 1 and preview Week 2 on the Friday Night Drive podcast available today.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Central rallied from a 20-13 deficit in the fourth quarter last Friday to beat Thornridge 27-26 and give the Steelmen the best record in town—sophomore quarterback Jeffrey Woods finished with two passing and two rushing touchdowns. Joliet West and Joliet Catholic lost their season-openers.  Herald-News
