ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On August 28th, 1990, an F5 tornado began near Oswego and moved through Plainfield, Crest Hill and Joliet, killing 29 people, injuring 353 and causing about $165 million in damage—local officials now urge residents to use modern storm warnings and be ready for severe weather. Herald-News

- ➤ Fired Joliet police officer Alfonso Sanchez said he is consulting his attorney to clear his name after the police board approved his termination following a July 21 incident where he drove his squad car at high speeds and a May 30 event that involved a failure to secure a crime scene—he insists he remains dedicated to transparency in his service. - ➤ Country music singer John Anderson (Country Music Hall of Fame member) will perform an acoustic concert at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet on Oct. 9. He will perform his popular hits after returning to touring following a health crisis. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Transportation said the reconstructed ramp from eastbound I-80 to Larkin Avenue in Joliet opened by 5 a.m. today after temporary lane closures began at 8 p.m. Thursday on the stretch between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue—this new ramp now gives drivers access to both northbound and southbound Larkin Avenue with a new traffic signal controlling it. The ramp is part of the ongoing I-80 reconstruction effort aimed at improving local traffic flow. Herald-News

- ➤ Wilmington’s Wildcats are in the midst of the 2025 season after graduating record rusher Kyle Farrell; senior Ryan Kettman and other players stepped up after practice began on Aug. 11.
