GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois will soon use a new Missing Persons Identification Act that makes police report missing persons immediately and add fingerprints, dental records, photos, and more into a national system if someone has been missing for 60 days — a change set to improve investigations. The law, signed by Gov. Pritzker on August 15, takes effect January 1, 2026.  FOX 32
  • Rosalind Street between Cutter Avenue and Briggs Street is closed today for culvert replacement construction—driveway access remains while on-street parking is suspended. Motorists should use the posted detour route, and emergency vehicles plus garbage collection will continue access as the road reopens in about six weeks.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Director of Public Works Greg Ruddy announced the city will begin a two-hour free parking program on September 1—designed to make downtown more affordable and accessible to shoppers and local businesses. He said the new measure aims to ease parking congestion and support local commerce.  FOX 32

SPORTS NEWS

  • Joliet West beat Lincoln-Way East 25-20, 25-21 on Tuesday with five players scoring at least three kills, and key players like Penny Wagner helped the team build its lead early. The win supports the Tigers' strong start as they continue in the season.  Herald-News
  • Josh Stone takes over as head coach of the Ashton-Franklin Center AFC football team after learning from veteran coach Dave Smith—he also welcomed former quarterback Jacob Shafer to help boost player numbers from 13 last season. The coach said the team is stronger this year with a better offensive line and plans to reach 20 players before the season starts—he aims to improve defense and consistency for future games.  Herald-News
