CRIME NEWS

  • A federal indictment unsealed this week charges four business owners from Will, Cook and DuPage counties with fraudulently receiving about $2.8 million in COVID‑19 relief funds—Dexter Crawford Jr. of Woodridge is named as the main figure, with Joliet businessman Jermie Miller accused of using fake records to secure loans.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Former Bishop McNamara coach Rich Zinanni cut the ribbon and led the first walk-through of the new Rich Zinanni Athletic Complex on Aug.21—he recalled his early days at the school—while new head coach Greg Youngblood said the team will honor the tradition and use the facility to inspire a winning spirit. The eight-month project cost over $4.5 million and was built with help from local supporters during the school’s 100th anniversary.  Herald-News

  • Newman high school football lost key veterans but expects its younger players to step up as they prepare for the playoff run—Coach Mike LeMay said summer practices helped the team learn new plays and get ready for the season.  Herald-News
  • Morris hosted the DeKalb high school football team for a scrimmage today to prepare for next week’s season opener—senior running back Caeden Curran scored two long touchdown runs while both teams ran 20 plays each. Both coaches said the game showed strengths and areas to fix before the regular season.  Herald-News
