- ➤ A Piper PA-18 Super Cub made an emergency landing near the Inwood Golf Course and McDonough Street at 5:14 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, with only a chain-link fence damaged—officials confirmed the pilot and others were unharmed. Herald-News

- ➤ Fry the Coop held its grand opening free chicken sandwich giveaway at 2611 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet on Aug. 14, and the event drew dozens of customers—2,000 registered by email as the giveaway continued until 10 p.m. Owner Joe Fontana celebrated the new location, marking his tenth restaurant launch. - ➤ City Hall promoted a 1% local grocery tax vote on Tuesday that would replace the state tax ending Jan.1 and generate about $3.7 million annually for vital services—Councilman Hug, however, said he plans to vote against the measure. Herald-News

Joey Scott of Lemont, Alex Hartman of Providence, Zachary Skrzypiec of Lockport, Connor Kelch of Lincoln-Way Central, and Sam Espinosa of Plainfield North have shown strong talent in past tournaments — and they will help lead their teams in state and conference play.
