  • Joliet's new Hollywood Casino will open today at 4 p.m. on Gateway Boulevard — the 200,000-square-foot venue will offer a thousand slot machines, 43 live gaming tables, an ESPN sportsbook and restaurants from celebrity chefs such as Stephanie Izard, following years of planning with a $185 million investment.  ABC7 Chicago

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Aug. 9, 2025, about 500 local and regional music fans gathered at Joliet’s Bicentennial Park for the Joliet Blues Festival where acts like Mondo Cortez and the Chicago Blues Angels performed. Organizer Karl Maurer, who has booked bands since the event began in 2018, plans to form a Joliet Blues Society—an effort to support local blues artists and the festival.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joliet announced lane closures at Six Corners today for the Plainfield Road Water Main Improvement Project that will last until Aug. 18. Northbound lanes on Raynor, eastbound lanes on Black Road, and westbound lanes on Ruby Street will be affected (drivers are urged to use alternate routes).  Herald-News
  • The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, Aug.26 from 3 to 6 p.m. to collect public input on a study to improve I-57 from south of Wilmington-Peotone Road to north of Manhattan-Monee Road in Will County. The open-house event will be held at the Will County Fair atrium (710 S. West St., Peotone) and comments submitted by Sept.16 will be included in the official record.  Herald-News
