CULTURE NEWS

  • Joliet’s Cathedral District will host its fourth annual Porch & Park Music Fest on Saturday, Aug. 16, where residents will walk along Western, Taylor, Buell and Campbell streets to enjoy live music on 10 porches from 1:30 to 5 p.m. A final concert will be held at Preservation Park from 5:30 to 9 p.m. — local vendors will offer food while community groups support the free event.  Herald-News
  • Lockport Township Park District holds the LockRocks summer concert series on Friday, Aug. 15 at Dellwood Park (199 E. Woods Drive) where Strung Out will play from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Semple Band from 8:30 to 11 p.m.; guests are advised to bring chairs or blankets for this free event.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crest Hill officials are considering a school resource officer program for Chaney-Monge and Richland schools—assigning full-time officer Heidi Outlaw to support student safety. The program is set to launch for the 2025-26 school year pending approval from the City Council and school boards and will focus on relationship-building and proactive support at school events.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Monday, August 11, high school football preseason practices will begin in the Suburban Life area as teams like Nazareth and Montini face tougher challenges in their new classes. Many teams including Downers Grove North, York and Lyons are set for tough matchups—top recruits and star players will compete for playoff spots this season.  Herald-News
