- ➤ An appellate court ruled on July 24 that Bahaa Sam, a 59-year-old man from Tinley Park convicted in 2018 of killing his wife, will get a new trial at the Will County Courthouse in Joliet—after the judge and prosecutors made mistakes during closing arguments. Herald-News

- ➤ The City of Joliet signed a two year agreement with developer John Bays to repave and landscape the rundown Riverwall parking lot along the Des Plaines River near Bays Tower, granting exclusive access to his tenants. The city council voted unanimously to approve the deal, which follows the 2021 sale of the Scott Street parking deck and supports Bays’ growing downtown projects — while the city retains ownership of the lot. - ➤ Joliet will take over the Southeast Joliet Sanitary District and its sewage services for the Preston Heights area effective Jan. 1 — a change approved by state legislation led by Sen. Megan Loughran Cappel. The move will modernize wastewater infrastructure and allow the city to respond faster to community needs. Herald-News
