  • On Friday, July 11, Duenez’s family, city officials and about 100 residents gathered outside his boyhood home to rename Albert Avenue as 'SSgt. Jose Duenez Jr. Way'—a tribute to his Army service and the life he led before his tragic death in a training mission.  Herald-News

  • Hollywood Casino Joliet at 1401 Gateway Blvd. held a media tour on July 11 to show its progress on construction. Officials said the casino — which is still being built — will open to the public on Aug. 11.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois-based State Farm Insurance said rising severe weather forced a nearly 30 percent premium increase and over $500 million in claims, and Gov. Pritzker demanded they prove the math + show justification. Lawmakers, including State Sen. Mike Hastings, plan a bill + require full disclosure of rate calculations to stop passing out-of-state disaster costs to homeowners.  FOX 32
  • Joliet police have started using a new body camera tool that gives officers instant translations in over 50 languages — the technology began this week to help improve communication during emergencies.  Herald-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Illinois health officials declared the measles outbreak over after no new cases have been reported since May 22 + the outbreak was limited to eight linked cases in southern Illinois and two separate cases in Cook County.  WGN-TV
