A Joliet father drowned on Sunday while trying to rescue his son from Lake Michigan near Dune Acres, Indiana—officials said a good Samaritan removed the pair from the water and CPR was administered before they were pronounced dead at a hospital.

Joliet police responded at 6 a.m. Saturday to a shooting in the 800 Block of Richmond Street that damaged two occupied homes — no injuries were reported, and investigators are seeking further information.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said that I-55 was fully closed last night at I-80 for steel beam installation needed to rebuild the bridge—closures will occur again tonight and Wednesday with detours from 1 to 5 a.m. each night.

All lanes and ramps will reopen by 6 a.m., and work is expected to finish by Thursday morning.
