CRIME NEWS

  • Joliet teen Adrian Simpson, 18, is accused of carrying a backpack with a loaded Glock handgun modified for automatic fire along with oxycodone and marijuana after police observed him on surveillance and recovered his bag that held 37 rounds, 83 oxycodone pills, and 24 bags of marijuana—he was released on pretrial conditions requiring residence confinement and electronic monitoring.  Herald-News
  • On Saturday night, a shooting on the 900 block of Marion Street left two teens with gunshot wounds before police stopped a speeding Chevrolet Cruz where an 18-year-old man was treated and a 19-year-old passenger was booked on charges for a stolen firearm and aggravated weapon possession—authorities also reported that stray gunfire struck a nearby garage and an unoccupied vehicle.  FOX 32

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joliet hired Johnson Research Group to review its six tax increment financing zones that use tax breaks to boost development. The study will not include the Rock Run Collection site — it will focus on districts downtown, along Cass Street, near Saint Joseph Medical Center and the former Silver Cross Hospital campus while allocating $72,615 from TIF funds.  Herald-News

  • Lombard resident Debra Robertson, diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2022 and given six months to live, has fought for a law that would let her choose to end her suffering—she hopes the bill, if passed next year, gives terminal patients control over their deaths.  FOX 32
