GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Metra will expand Rock Island Line service to 84 weekday trains and 40 weekend trains starting Monday, June 1. The new schedule replaces flag stops with regular stops (improving evening and weekend options) at key local stations. Herald-News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Clifton Central beat St. Anne/Donovan two nil in the Class 1A Clifton Regional final on Saturday morning to win its first regional championship since 2019 + they will face Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in the Dwight Sectional semifinals on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Herald-News
- ➤ Minooka beat Plainfield Central 11-1 in a five-inning win to secure the Class 4A Bradley-Bourbonnais Regional title on Saturday. The Indians will face Normal Community at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Illinois State University in a sectional matchup. Herald-News
- ➤ In regional playoffs, Lincoln-Way Central upset Lincoln-Way East 6–5 to win the Class 4A baseball title while Lockport, Gardner-South Wilmington, Wilmington, Solorio, and Lincoln-Way West claimed wins. Lincoln-Way East and Bolingbrook will face opponents on Tuesday. Herald-News
- ➤ Twin pitchers Case and Caden Christensen helped Gardner-South Wilmington win the Class 1A regional title with a 6-1 score against Dwight Saturday in a game that avenged an earlier loss. The team will face Armstrong in the Sectional semifinals on Wednesday. Herald-News
- ➤ Rocco Szambelan pitched a complete game six-hitter as Joliet Catholic defeated Morris 8-2 (winning the regional title on their home field). The team will face Dunlap at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Washington Sectional. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet West's baseball season ended Saturday after a 13-0 loss to Marist in the Class 4A Stagg Regional finals. The Tigers finished 24-11-1 and graduate nine seniors while coach Karczewski said returning players like Keagan Schwarting will help the team improve next season. Herald-News
