Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 24th of May.
Good morning, Joliet.
🏘️ Community
The Forest Preserve District of Will County launched the 'Put Your Junk in the Trunk' campaign to remind visitors to keep valuables out of sight in their cars using humorous signs and a country music video on social media.
Police advise that items like wallets, phones, and purses be locked in the trunk or left at home to help prevent theft in the preserves.
🏛️ Government
Joliet launched its new Certified Emergency Response Team with 28 local volunteers trained in first aid, disaster preparedness and rescue tasks to support first responders.
City officials plan to expand the team to 200 by the end of 2026 and a training session starts on June 10 (members include retired firefighters, nuns and community volunteers from all five City Council districts).
