- ➤ A Chicago man (26-year-old Joshua Anderson) was sentenced to 56 years in prison for the 2019 murder and robbery of Gregory Brown outside Denny's in Joliet; he made comments comparing the system to modern-day slavery after a jury convicted him in just 23 minutes. Herald-News
- ➤ An employee of a private vendor at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet was arrested over the weekend for using a skimming device to steal nearly $600 from vendors, police said, and Reginald Hinton from Fort Worth was released on a notice to appear with a court date set for June 6. FOX 32
- ➤ Retired Sgt. Ed Grizzle is facing a federal false arrest lawsuit after arresting colleague Dwayne Killian over a dispute involving task force property—U.S. District Judge LaShonda Hunt ruled Grizzle cannot use qualified immunity. Herald-News

- ➤ New U.S. Census estimates show Joliet now has 151,837 residents while Naperville has 153,124, which drops Joliet from Illinois’ third largest city status. City officials said Joliet remains fast-growing and is advancing large-scale housing projects—steps aimed at spurring future growth. Herald-News
- ➤ The Jefferson Street bridge has been closed since May 14 after an electrical short and will remain closed for six to eight weeks while repairs continue. City officials are asking the Illinois Department of Transportation to limit barge traffic during restricted hours (7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.) to ease congestion downtown.
