COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boys volleyball teams from District 204 met on May 12 at Joliet West for a fundraiser that raised $1,182 for Hope Manor Joliet — a project supporting local veterans through ticket sales, raffles, and donations.  Herald-News
  • Will County and Sharefest will host a food giveaway on May 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Office Building (302 N. Chicago St.) in Joliet. Attendees must register in advance and arrive during their scheduled time slot to help keep vehicles moving.  Herald-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zaxby’s, the southern fast casual chain that opened its first Illinois restaurant in Plainfield in January, plans a new restaurant in a former Wendy’s spot at 110 S. Larkin Ave — the Joliet City Council will vote on a drive-thru permit later this week.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lincoln-Way East earned a 9 to 8 walk off win Friday and will host Bloom and Thornwood on May 27 at 4:30 p.m. as the team aims for postseason success. Lockport, Plainfield Central and Providence Catholic teams also prepare for playoff matchups on May 27 and 28.  Herald-News
  • Adrian Cavira tossed a one-hitter as Joliet West defeated Joliet Central 10-0 in six innings on Monday. The win keeps the Tigers in the playoff race as they prepare for next week’s Stagg Regional.  Herald-News
  • Minooka boys volleyball fought a tight match against Andrew as they led early in set three but lost 19-25, 25-21, 26-24. Junior hitter Bennett Robinson led with nine kills as the team will play two more conference matches before the regional tournament.  Herald-News
