Crest Hill residents received warning letters from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency that their drinking water has PFAS levels above state limits — two wells showed higher amounts than allowed.

City officials said they will test the water until 2027 and plan to switch to Lake Michigan water by spring or summer 2030 while advising residents to use home water filters.

The Jefferson Street bridge in downtown Joliet closed Wednesday because an electrical short knocked out a motor and it will remain closed for weeks as state transportation officials work on the repairs — which may affect the main eastbound route and future maintenance schedules.

The Route 66 Nationals are underway at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet this weekend with qualifying rounds starting Friday and final eliminations on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Daniel Wilkerson—following his father's win in 1999—will race in the Funny Car category while Top Fuel driver Justin Ashley aims for his first win as sponsors and fans gather to back the high-octane event.
