EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Joliet Public Schools District 86 Board of School Inspectors voted to name Matthew Pritz as president and R. Emil Standfield as vice president on May 13. Both will serve one-year terms and Standfield is set for reelection in 2027.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • David Folorunsho committed to Notre Dame Friday on a Rivals livestream after leading the Shamrocks to a championship run and second-round playoff berth in 2025; he chose the Irish over several top programs and said (his campus felt like family) while preparing to start his fourth varsity season this fall.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way East rallied with three runs in the seventh to win 9-8 over Lockport last Friday. Rocco Triolo’s game-winning hit ended Lockport’s 15-game streak and lifted the Griffins to a 25-4 record.  Herald-News
  • St. Francis girls track and field won the Class 2A Clark Sectional title at Knute Rockne Stadium on Saturday, May 16. They beat Timothy Christian 108 to 101 with wins by Margaret Andrzejewski in the 800, Alicen Sheldon in the 300 hurdles, and Ainsley Clark in the triple jump.  Herald-News
  • St. Laurence junior linebacker Sean Rice committed to Illinois last Friday after recording 123 tackles — he chose the Fighting Illini over offers from Indiana, Purdue and others. Ranked No. 2 at his position, Rice led his team to the state semifinals during a standout junior season.  Herald-News
