- ➤ Illinois DMVs were unable to verify U.S. passports yesterday due to a nationwide outage announced by Secretary of State Alexic Giannoulias—residents were advised to call ahead as services and hours may be affected while airport verifications remained available. FOX 32
- ➤ The Jefferson Street drawbridge in downtown Joliet was closed on Wednesday for emergency repairs as IDOT replaced equipment and electrical components in the tender house. IDOT said a reopening date has not been set (motorists are advised to take a detour via Raynor Avenue). Herald-News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Federal officials will cut the $56 million grant that funds Narcan training and free distribution to help stop opioid overdoses, and local health leaders warn that this move could reverse progress in saving lives. They say that if nearly $100 million in Illinois support is lost, communities may have to rely on alternative programs (such as a pilot for a similar opioid reversal drug) to keep lifesaving treatment available.
