CRIME NEWS

  • The FBI is seeking tips on four suspects who robbed a BMO bank in south suburban Frankfort just after 10 a.m. in a gray Hyundai sedan; the suspects are four Black men wearing dark sweatpants, hooded sweatshirts, and dark gloves (with facial coverings) (and no one was hurt).  FOX 32

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as Pope Leo XIV on May 8, making him the first American pope and drawing praise from Illinois leaders such as Gov. JB Pritzker + Mayor Brandon Johnson for his focus on workers and immigration.  FOX 32

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Joliet was ranked seventh among 10 affordable U.S. cities in a report by The Motley Fool as its cost of living was nearly six points below the national average—housing costs were 20 points lower and the median income stayed above average. The study used data from the Council for Community and Economic Research, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the U.S. Census Bureau to compare local prices for essentials.  FOX 32

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joliet Public Schools District 86 has five couples teaching at the same schools (Woodland Elementary, Gompers Junior High, A.O. Marshall, and Dirksen) and they share both the benefits and challenges of balancing work and home life. The couples use their close partnerships to collaborate on teaching strategies and school events, which has strengthened student connections and built a supportive learning environment.  Herald-News
