Good morning, Joliet.

A vigil was held Thursday in Chicago to honor Joliet soldier Sgt. Jose Duenez Jr., who was one of four U.S. soldiers killed last week in a training accident in Lithuania when their vehicle became submerged in a bog (attended by Chicago’s Lithuanian community) and was remembered by Illinois lawmakers (including Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Tammy Duckworth).

A gas leak occurred on March 27 at a Crest Hill home on Nicholson when 20 to 30 cats and dogs turned stove knobs on, prompting officials to shut off the gas and electricity and deem the property uninhabitable—Joliet Township Animal Control is working with the city to remove the animals.

A Joliet man, 50, was arrested early Wednesday for allegedly choking his wife during a domestic battery call on Third Avenue—police later recovered two guns and evidence that one weapon discharged.

Lincoln-Way Central beat Providence Catholic 10-6 to win the WJOL Softball Tournament title.

Senior Bella Dimitrijevic pitched in relief and drove in three runs—helping secure the win for the Knights.

Lockport defeated Joliet West 6-5 in a baseball quarterfinal game on Thursday and advanced to the tournament semifinal round where they will face Minooka today.
