EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joliet Central High School cadets mentored elementary students at Marshall School in District 86 as they delivered Junior Achievement lessons on financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship. The service-learning project allowed 25 cadets to develop leadership, communication + teamwork skills.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Joliet officials warn drivers that emergency sewer repairs have reduced lanes on Jefferson Street from Hickory Street to the Des Plaines River, beginning Thursday and lasting until April 3. Motorists should use alternate routes to reach downtown and Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park — especially during peak hours.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Newman led Sterling 10-0 at Gartner Park on Thursday, Mar. 26 when the game was halted by lightning — Michael Morse’s three-run double sparked a strong offensive start — and the Comets will face Sterling at home on April 21.  Herald-News
  • Junior linebacker Derrick Pomatto played both offense & defense in 2025, scoring three touchdowns and recording 101 tackles in a rare 4-6 season. He will lead training efforts to boost pass coverage as the Hilltoppers aim for state championship contention next season.  Herald-News
  • The Herald-News released the 2025-26 Girls Basketball All-Area Team, honoring top players from local schools such as Providence, Bolingbrook, Lockport, Minooka, and Joliet Central. Star Landrie Callahan (Player of the Year) led her team to a supersectional win and set school records throughout the season.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way Central rallied to beat Joliet Catholic 13-6 in their home opener on Wednesday, March 25 in New Lenox.  Herald-News
  • Roger Powell Sr., a record breaking basketball icon from Joliet Central and beloved community figure who organized local youth sports leagues, died Saturday, March 21. His friend Steve Danielson will serve as a pallbearer at his funeral, with visitation scheduled Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2 in Joliet.  Herald-News
