BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Great American Bagel (closed in 2023) reopened at 1101 Essington Road under new ownership and now offers bagel flavors like apple cinnamon, oat bran, and blueberry along with breakfast and All-American sandwiches on the west side of Joliet.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • William Shatner will appear on Oct. 29 at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet for a Q&A session after a screening of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Tickets begin selling Friday at 10 a.m. (VIP seating includes a photo opportunity.)  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane closures on Chicago Street between McDonough Street + Doris Avenue begin today as part of the Interstate 80 interchange reconstruction in Joliet, with one lane open for one month while temporary pavement is installed and ramp closures in April set work until 2028.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bishop McNamara won its season opener 2-0 against Peotone on Monday, Mar. 23, as sophomore pitcher Joslynn Dole recorded a two-hit shutout with support from timely hits. Coach Arseneau expressed optimism for a season built on teamwork (a sign of strong camaraderie among players).  Herald-News
  • Hall senior Braden Curran earned the 2025-26 BCR Boys Basketball Player of the Year award after scoring his 1,000th point at home against rival St. Bede — he also received unanimous All-Conference honors and will play baseball at Augustana College next year.  Herald-News
  • After a narrow loss in the state finals last fall, Providence Catholic football's junior stars Broden Mackert (1,756 yards, 23 touchdowns) and Lamar Winfield (60 tackles, 6.5 sacks) plan to lead a refreshed Celtics team as they build toward a state title this fall.  Herald-News
  • The Lincoln Way West softball team beat Plainfield South 11 to 0 in five innings Tuesday afternoon + improved to 4 to 0 with key players stepping up. Plainfield South will host Willowbrook Wednesday while the team visits Naperville Central.  Herald-News
  • In Tuesday's local high school sports roundup, IC Catholic Prep clinched a nine-inning walk-off win over Timothy Christian while teams including Wheaton Academy, St. Francis and Benet secured key victories in baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball across the area.  Herald-News
