  • Manhattan canceled its annual Fourth of July parade to ease traffic ahead of NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway from July 2-5. Officials say the decision will help residents enjoy a safe and festive holiday weekend.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • George Thorogood & the Destroyers with special guest The Robert Cray Band will play a classic rock show on Sunday, March 29 at Rialto Square Theatre downtown. Tickets start at $54.  Herald-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Romeoville will invite residents to join the Wyland Water Conservation Challenge from Apr. 1 through Apr. 30 by taking water-saving pledges online (daily prizes and a traveling trophy will be offered to the most water-wise community) as rising water levels prompt careful use of resources.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, Jackson Street will close at the rail crossing between Scott and State from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. + the closure may last up to 10 hours weather permitting for BNSF Railway repairs, and detour signage will guide drivers on alternate routes.  Herald-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A single-family home at 4 Eden Lane in Joliet sold for $1 million, topping Will County’s 10 priciest residential transactions recorded during the week of March 9 (94 sales averaged $338,210).  Herald-News
  • 1114 Tara Court, a two-story 2,626 sqft home built in 1996, sold on March 4 for $485,000 at about $185 per sqft. The property features cooling & parking for three.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The La Salle-Peru football team revamped its nonconference schedule for 2026 by adding four new opponents – Lanphier, Wheaton Academy, Alton, and Marquette Academy. The Cavaliers will open at Howard Fellows Stadium against Lanphier on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m., with games at Wheaton Academy and Alton following.  Herald-News
