COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kendall Area Transit is surveying residents in Kendall County, including Joliet, to plan future travel services for seniors, people with disabilities, and occasional riders. Its Dial-a-ride service runs Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and recently raised $1,087 — enough to add 363 rides.  Herald-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Woodman’s Food Market is under construction in Plainfield at Illinois Route 59 and 119th Street, with a planned opening this fall around Oct. 1. The 243,500 sqft store will add gas pumps and a car wash and hire over 200 employees; most hiring begins in September (hiring starts this summer).  Herald-News

  • Multiple area girls basketball players earned All-State and All-Conference honors this season; Minooka’s Madelyn Kiper, Joliet Central’s Nevaeh Wright, and others were recognized by local leagues + the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, showcasing strong local talent.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way West boys water polo team improved to 3-1 with a 16-5 win over Bremen on Monday. Noah Kueltzo led with five goals while Tyler Stasiak added four to secure the victory.  Herald-News
  • Suburban Life previews the 2026 baseball season with detailed looks at team records, key returning players and newcomers from high schools like Benet, Downers Grove, and Glenbard. The previews show each team’s strengths and prospects as they prepare for upcoming games.  Herald-News
  • Brady Pettigrew earned first-team All-State honors in 4A after leading Bolingbrook to postseason success — local high school athletes, including Trey Brost with third-team recognition, were celebrated for their strong season performances.  Herald-News
  • Joliet Central students Georgianna Majerus and Amaya Crowder were named Chicago Bears Community High School All-Stars, recognizing their leadership on and off the field. They received a custom Bears football and a $500 donation opportunity (presented by Chicago Bears officials and coach Carlotta McLaurin) in the program.  Herald-News
