- ➤ Maple Syrup Magic (a family event) returns to Plum Creek Nature Center today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve featuring a live chainsaw art demonstration, themed craft stations, an obstacle course by Slackline Chicago, and a pancake breakfast by the Crete Cadets (sweet treats available). - ➤ JJC and USF announced the Bridge Forward Partnership to guarantee USF admission for JJC students who complete required coursework and earn 60 transferable credits (or an associate degree) while also offering tuition discounts and transfer-specific scholarships in Joliet. Herald-News
- ➤ The Diocese of Joliet named Gregory N. Porod as the new superintendent of Catholic schools, effective June 29, replacing Dr. James Quaid. A veteran educator with over 40 years of experience, Porod will oversee 47 schools in local counties + support ongoing improvements in school programs. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Developers of a Joliet data center project have 6,000 letters of support, and the city council will vote at 5:30 p.m. Monday on annexing 795 acres in a largely farmland area near Rowell Avenue + Bernhard Road to move the project forward. Herald-News
- ➤ Power was lost at the Will County Office Building and downtown school campuses on Friday morning due to a widespread power-loss; county staff worked with ComEd to assess restoration timelines while schools dismissed students at 1:15 p.m. and canceled after-school activities, arranging bus transportation for those without rides.
