ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Will County Nature Foundation donated $45,200 to the Forest Preserve District programs on Feb. 11. The funds supported prizes for conservation challenges, prescribed burns, invasive species management and visitor center exhibits — boosting local efforts. Herald-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Canaanland Christian Church is hosting a Get Out the Vote event on Saturday in Joliet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The event will offer activities for all ages, refreshments + opportunities to meet local candidates ahead of the primary election on March 17. Herald-News
- ➤ The Joliet Plan Commission recommended approval for a proposed 795-acre data center on farmland south of the Chicagoland Speedway. The project will be reviewed by City Council on March 16 at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to bring over 7,000 construction jobs + 700 permanent jobs amid local opposition. Herald-News
- ➤ The city announced the three winning names for its new snow plows (selected from creative entries by Joliet Public Schools District 86 students in January) and plans to put them into service soon. Herald-News

- ➤ Nazareth's junior guard, Sophia Towne, will lead her team in today's 2:30 p.m. state semifinal at Illinois State's CEFCU Arena against Belleville East as she uses her cross country endurance to chase a second IHSA state championship. Herald-News
