  • Will County moms from Mokena and Lockport started a Facebook group eight years ago to connect families with special needs with reliable caregivers—now the group has over 2,800 members and supports those caring for elderly family members. The group continues to expand its network while promoting trusted community care.  Herald-News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Casa Catrina, a new Mexican restaurant, held its soft opening on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Joliet Union Station. The venue offered an elegant yet affordable dining experience.  Herald-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Celtic Woman is set to perform (A New Era) at Rialto Square Theatre on Saturday, Apr. 4 in Joliet. The show will feature new orchestrations with traditional Irish music and tickets start at $39.50.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joliet Central and West high schools raised $1,321 at the annual Takedown Cancer event on Jan. 15 during a wrestling match to honor former coach Pat O’Connell, who died from lung cancer in 2019.  Herald-News

  • The single-family home at 6506 Roth Drive was sold on Feb. 9 for $420,000, with a rate of $118 per sqft. Built in 2007, the two-story property spans 3,549 sqft with central A/C and an attached garage.  Herald-News

  • Gardner-South Wilmington beat Amboy 64–48 in the Class 1A Streator Woodland Regional game and will face Newark Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Romeoville won a close game against Plainfield South, while Coal City and Dwight advanced + setting up their next regional matchups.  Herald-News
  • Herscher held on for a 56-51 regional win over Reed-Custer Monday at Reed-Custer's court—securing a spot in Wednesday’s home semifinal against Bishop McNamara.  Herald-News
  • Lincoln-Way West defeated Joliet Central by 37 points in a 4A boys basketball playoff game on Monday night at its home court; the Warriors will face third-seeded Lockport in the regional semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  Herald-News
  • Woodland boys basketball earned its first conference championship since 1979 after Jaron Follmer, who received 82.3% of 113 votes, was named The Times Athlete of the Week. He posted 21 points (7 assists, 9 rebounds) and will play against Somonauk soon.  Herald-News
  • Woodland senior Nolan Price celebrated turning 18 on Monday by hitting four consecutive 3 pointers before halftime—breaking his school’s single-season scoring record—in a 70 to 25 win over Earlville. The Warriors will face Henry-Senachwine at 6 p.m. Wednesday.  Herald-News
