COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Forest Preserve District of Will County has announced a week of free events in local parks, including dog-friendly coffee at Lower Rock Run Preserve on Saturday, Feb. 28 and guided nature hikes at Channahon - register online to join in.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crest Hill will hold a special meeting Monday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall — 20600 City Center Blvd — to update the public on its short-term plan to reduce PFAS contamination while considering further measures before switching to Lake Michigan water by 2030.  Herald-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Providence sophomore Justus Heeg won his second state title in Champaign on Saturday, Feb. 21, by technical fall over unbeaten Brock Ross (of Mascoutah) and led his team to three IHSA wins, with his brother also earning a medal.  Herald-News
  • Joliet West's girls bowling team finished second at the state meet on Saturday with a score of 12,163 and earned the runner-up trophy (Malorie Berry scored 2,544 and Emily Michon scored 2,520).  Herald-News
  • Marian Central’s Jimmy Mastny completed his third state title by winning the IHSA state boys wrestling finals on Saturday at State Farm Center in Champaign. He posted a 53 to 1 record while runners-up Nathan Randle (Crystal Lake South) and Nicholas Marchese (Crystal Lake Central) each finished second.  Herald-News
  • The Dwight boys basketball team won 70-65 over Marquette on Saturday at Marseilles Elementary School by keeping an early lead that withstood late rallies. They improved to 18-12 and will play DePue in the playoff quarterfinals Monday at 6 p.m.  Herald-News
